Autism management in teenagers - Homeopathic Treatment

Autism as it is mostly understood as a childhood developmental disorder , very few talk about what happens to these kids who are on the autism spectrum when they grow up.As Autism is a complex neuro-developmental disorder it can persist for life in varying degrees.

We should take a holistic view in helping the individuals on the autism spectrum.

I will cite 2 recent cases of Autism which came to us for help , the first case is of a young girl aged 18 years where the individual was having severe bouts of uncontrolled laughing episodes. Along with this the girl used to get very angry and was shouting loudly when she didn't get what she wanted. As her mental state was disturbed she was unable to sleep.

Along with this her parents who are also getting older were finding it distressing to see their daughter suffer. The parents were already giving therapy and modern medicines, they were referred to us by a Physician as in the past we have helped many individuals with Homeopathy.

The situation was quite difficult as parents were also breaking down and we had a detailed discussion about the case .In Homeopathy we need to understand the individual to see what are the characteristic symptoms which will help us in finding the right Homeopathic medicine. The symptoms that are characteristic to the individual like in this case persistent laughter without any known cause and the gaiety was helpful in finding the right remedy along with the other totality of symptoms.

There are lot of myths about Homeopathy that it is slow to act , it has no scope in treating Autism. In the past 15 years in helping individuals on Autism we have not only helped them in getting better but also helped them in channelising their energy in the right direction. We have seen that if a integrated approach of treatment with Homeopathy-Nutrition-Therapy is given the results are quite encouraging.

In the above case we gave the Homeopathic medicine and asked the parents to report to us after a weeks time and to put a daily follow up on our portal. In the first 3 days the parents called and reported that the girl was little better. The laughing bouts are less and the child is able to sleep.

In acute cases we need to get the results fast so that we can bring relief , we cannot wait for months to see a change as it is portrayed in the case of Homeopathic treatment. After this acute episode the individual is given the constitutional medicines and observed every month. We have now been treating this individual for almost a year and she is doing quite well .The laughing episodes and behaviour has improved a lot and she goes regularly to her vocational school and doing well.

The Other case was of an adult where we were called in to help with the sensory issues .In this case the situation was quite distressing as the individual used to smear the stools all over , desire to uncover himself and making noise.Advancing parents age and covid times with little support things were quite difficult. We took the case and there were lot of characteristic symptom’s , this individual was non verbal so we had to take the case record from the parents and then we gave the individual an Homeopathic medicine which brought in a change in his behaviour and stopped the smearing of stools and was much rested.

So if one studies the case history of the individual and applies his knowledge in Homeopathy we can get very good results. Also support of counsellors, therapist can be taken to help the individual and the family in handling the acute crisis .

Autism is a complex neurodevelopment disorder so one needs to think of long term planning and getting the individual engaged in the the areas of interest to make them independent. Rather than running after miracle cures and quick fixes it is better to plan and work with the individual with Autism keeping realistic goals.

We have seen many parents doing wonderful work along with their children when they have been realistic about the Autism disorder. So let's keep working in helping the individuals who are on the Autism spectrum disorder.
